Free to a good home: a full set of encyclopaedias, A to Zygote, 1987, including the volume where everything about computers is wrong in a way that is now quite soothing. They weigh what a child weighs and look magnificent on a shelf you have not yet built. I kept them through three house moves on the grounds that one day somebody would ask me a question, and nobody ever has.

- Lost near the pond: one wooden walking stick, ash, with a brass band around the handle and a dent where it met a cattle grid at speed. It was not being used for walking at the time, it was being used to point at a duck, which is how these things happen.
