Award-Winning Window Cleaner Accidentally Reunites Neighbours Who Hadn't Seen Each Other In Years

A record shine on Haddenham's glazing has left residents visible to one another for the first time.

Haddenham has woken this week to a crisis nobody saw coming, largely because until recently nobody could see anything at all. Following a sustained campaign of excellence by Haddenham Window Cleaners, the village's glass has reached a level of clarity that residents are describing as "frankly intrusive".

"I went to wave at a bird and it was my neighbour," said one woman who asked to be identified only as someone who has now met her neighbour. "We moved in the same month. That month was in 1978. We had a conversation. In October. I came here specifically to avoid that.". Others have accepted their new life in the open and bought better dressing gowns.

Tiggywinkles, meanwhile, is understood to be bracing itself, by ordering extra neck braces on the grounds that a pigeon has never once in its life expected glass to be invisible. Anyone wishing to warn a pigeon is welcome to try.

That, we are delighted to report, is the only problem the Herald could find, and we had to make it up. The actual news is that Jamie Taylor, who runs Haddenham Window Cleaners, has been named a 2026 Quality Business Award winner, and is currently a finalist in the UK Small Business Awards. Two separate sets of judges, neither of them from this paper, looked at a small local business and decided it was one of the best run businesses they had seen.

Nobody hands a small business an award for having a logo. It gets one for turning up when it said it would, charging what it said it would, and doing it again next month, in the rain, for years, until the recommendations do the work for you. That is how the whole thing was built: word of mouth, repeat customers, and the radical commercial strategy of being reliable. The long-term ambition for Jamie, said publicly and the least cynical thing to appear in this newspaper all year, is to grow it into something hischildren could take over one day.

So: if your glass has reached the stage where you describe it as "textured", or your gutters have developed their own ecosystem, Haddenham Window Cleaners is the award-winning outfit to call. They do windows and exterior cleaning (gutters, fascias, soffits, the conservatory you have stopped looking at) for homes and businesses across Haddenham and the surrounding villages. Look them up as Haddenham Window Cleaners, ask for a quote, and tell them the Herald sent you, which will mean nothing to them and a great deal to us. Congratulations, Jamie. The village can see out now, and frankly it suits us. Jamie at Haddenham Window Cleaners can be contacted on 07359 331840 or www.haddenhamwindowcleaners.co.uk
